Flexibility I with Jeff McConnell
Class is Full

Saturday - Sunday, July 25 - 26, 2009 / 9:00am - 5:30pm / 14 hours / $195

This course is designed to teach the L.M.T. how to safely stretch the muscles of the shoulders, hips, and knees using an active isolated movement. This method of stretching uses reciprocal innervation/inhibition of the appropriate muscles while isolating the movement to a single joint and single plane of movement. The participants will learn how to safely assist their clients in performing these stretches, thereby augmenting whatever bodywork that the L.M.T. may already be providing. Knowing how to lengthen muscle and fascial tissue that has shortened enables one to assist the client into a more balanced and erect posture, thus reducing the stress on the postural muscles. Not only can this form of stretching be used to treat various musculo-skeletal problems, it can also be used as a preventative tool to help avoid injuries and as a means to enhance an athletes' performance.

Please bring: Sheets, towels, lotion, appropriate massage attire, writing utensil.

Instructor: Jeff McConnell, AP, LMT - In the summer of 1988, Jeff's health career began when he graduated from the Suncoast School of Massage Therapy in Tampa, Florida. He was fortunate to land a job at the Aaron Mattes Rehabilitation Center in Sarasota. The training and experience that he received working there led to a teaching position back at Suncoast, where he has taught his students how to correctly apply Aaron's unique form of stretching. For the next sixteen years or so he continued to teach at Suncoast II (new name), practiced massage at his clinic in St. Pete, and after becoming a continuing education provider for the State of Florida in 1996, he taught seminars in flexibility training, sports massage, and Reiki. Jeff ended up attending the East West College of Natural Medicine in Sarasota. In December of 2005, he graduated with a Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine and a Bachelor Degree in Health Sciences. In January of 2006, he traveled to Bejing, China for advanced training in Traditional Chinese Medicine at China's top army hospital. Jeff McConnell is a Board Certified, licensed acupuncture physician. At his clinic he offers a variety of modalities from both East and West. Among these are acupuncture, massage therapy, assisted stretching, Shiatsu, Reiki, and Chinese cupping.

Bamboo-Fusion™... is an innovative way to provide Swedish or deep tissue full body massage on the table while reducing the stress on your hands. You will learn a new way to effleurage and petrissage with "warmed" bamboo/rattan tools that are different shapes and sizes.

By introducing a new tool, you will increase the amount of clients you can apply deep tissue to, give longer sessions without fatigue, and it will also save your thumbs and wrists from repetitive use injuries.

Bamboo-Fusion is a new exciting and fun way to deliver an exotic luxury treatment your clients will love! *Bamboo tools and DVD, a $150.00 value, are included!

Please bring: Bolster or pillow, sheet set, and face cradle cover.

Instructor: Nathalie Cecilia, LMT - Born in Nimes, a Roman city located in Provence (South France), Nathalie Cecilia is your Bamboo Massage Therapy instructor. With a master's degree in Philosophy and Languages from the Universitee Des Lettres De Montpellier, she began her career as a teacher and a translator.

Traveling from the age of 16 around Europe--and later around the world--she pursued her passion for discovering new horizons, and crossed the Atlantic in order to explore the United States and experience life here. It was here that she decided to change her career.

Keeping her goal to help people in mind, she attended the Sarasota School of Massage Therapy. Three months following her graduation in 2004, she opened Two Touch Company--a Thai studio and massage therapy office in Sarasota, Florida. Many of Nathalie's clients were asking for deep tissue treatment. She soon began to experience pain and fatigue in her hands and wrists. When she started using bamboo to assist her with deep tissue work, she noticed that her pain subsided and her clients loved it.

She developed an innovative way to give bamboo massage on the table (Bamboo-Fusion) and in the chair, meanwhile creating her own bamboo set to give the massage. Her goal today is to help therapists provide deep massage without hurting themselves. This technique aids in avoiding repetitive injuries, such as carpal tunnel, and reduces the stress on thumbs, wrists and hands.
