Professional Ethics for Bodyworkers

In the rapidly expanding field of massage therapy, concerns regarding
ethical behavior and practice are also on the rise. Given the intimate
setting of bodywork, it is crucial to establish a safe environment and
a clear understanding between client and therapist as to what is expected.
Therapists must also be able to effectively communicate within the parameters
of each individual's unique personality, including their own. The intent
of this workshop is to define the broad scope of ethics, empower each
therapist with their own personal Code of Ethics, and explore possible
ethical situations which will challenge participants to make good decisions
as to how they respond.

- Recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Illinois chapter
of the American Massage Therapy Association for outstanding performance
as a massage educator. Frances is an instructor in anatomy, kinesiology,

training in Structural Integration, Myofascial Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy,

Clinical Sports Massage: Rotator Cuff & Shoulder

Learn the pathology, assessment, treatment, and self-care of the shoulder
region with specific focus on the glenohumeral joint and rotator cuff
musculature. Understand the possible causes and contributing factors associated
with rotator cuff shoulder dysfunction. Contributing factors such as postural
or structural misalignment, muscle imbalance, trigger points and movement
dysfunction will be identified. The application of basic orthopedic assessments,
active, passive and resisted ROM, as well as palpation assessment, serve
to help isolate and determine the location and type of dysfunction. These
finding are utilized to form the most effective application of treatment
techniques to reduce painful symptoms, and return the athlete to optimum
function. The techniques taught in the course include Myofascial release,
Trigger Point Release, Cyriax Cross Fiber Friction, and Muscle Energy
Techniques.

- Wayne is a 2000 Chicago graduate and holds a B.S. degree in Kinesiology

This course presents two hands on approaches for helping people with Fibromyalgia
- enhancing breathing and supporting the natural repair process that is
involved with restful sleep. We will learn techniques to open the thorax
and lumbo-sacral regions to enhance dimensional breath and we will apply
tehniques that may aid the client in restful sleep. These techniques will
result in a decrease of the signs and symptoms of chronic fatigue, widespread

National Certification Exam Preparation

out of school for a time or are a recent graduate, the National Certification
Exam is a prerequisite to become a licensed massage therapist in the state
of Illinois. Join CSMT faculty for two days of exam preparation to review
anatomical and clinical information, take practice tests, and become acquainted
with the exam expectations. You will also receive a copy of Outline Review
of Massage Therapy by Barbara Rice ($30 Value), a nationally published
review book. This workshop will refresh your knowledge, help alleviate
test anxiety, and prepare you for your national certification. The exam
review manual will be provided in class. Course content will provide review
of materials for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic
Massage only, which does not include Asian Modalities.
